PHILIP AND THE EUNUCH

*

Acts of the Apostles 8: 26-40.

26. And it came to pass that an angel saith unto Philip, Get thee south towards Gaza. (Now this is a dodgy road, let the reader understand.)

27. And behold he got himself south.

28. Now there was an eunuch from Ethiopia. He was an Ethiopian, of the court of the Candace of Ethiopia, who is the Queen of the Ethiopians.

29. Yet Philip wondered unto himself, What manner of being is an eunuch?

30. And the Spirit told him, and Philip winced exceedingly.

31. And the eunuch was reading Isaiah, which is an hard book to understand at the best of times.

32. And the Spirit saith again unto Philip, Go ye unto him.

33. But Philip prevaricated, saying, But he is an eunuch.

34. Yet he relented, and sitting beside the eunuch he asked of him whether he understood the scripture.

35. And the eunuch saith highly unto Philip, Nope! Not a word.

36. Then up spake Philip, and offered to assist with the exegesis. And lo, he did so greatly.

37. Then saith the eunuch unto Philip, Behold! A river. Fancy a swim?

38. And verily they did both dive in, but the Spirit did remove Philip at once, and the eunuch saw him no more.

39. And Philip found himself at Azotus, and was troubled,

40. saying unto himself, And just how did that happen?
